Naluwembe Maimuna Kayemba, commonly referred to as Mai by many is a law student at Makerere University in her final year.  She is a passionate social justice champion and advocate whose dedication to serving others is truly inspiring.

Maimuna has a good trail of lasting impact on people’s lives through her works in various spaces. She has taken part in legal aid clinics involving educating village leaders in Katosi  village, Mukono district in Uganda on by-law making to address stray animals, child abuse, and education. She has worked with the Refuge law project working on a number of projects including helping over 40 refugees in Adjumani district to secure proper legal status through statutory declarations. In this same space still, she contributed to a livelihood survey that shaped poverty alleviation programs for refugees for better lives.

Her oratory skill and love to raising awareness has seen her host a radio talk show on torture management and reporting mechanisms, amplifying voices and educating communities.

Maimuna works as  a volunteer with Fundoo, a project by UNICEF, Uganda where she has helped develop a digital chatbot to teach young people 21st-century skills and ease the transition from school to the workforce. Her love for debate and public speaking has seen her  coach and adjudicate national debate tournaments, nurturing the next generation of critical thinkers and confident speakers.

Beyond her achievements, Maimuna is known for her kindness, compassion, and sweet nature always ready to uplift those around her with empathy and understanding. Her favorite emoji is the moon, a reflection of her persona. She leads not just with her mind but with her heart, embodying the spirit of resilience and hope.

Today, we celebrate Naluwembe Maimuna Kayemba, a beacon of light, a voice for the voiceless, and a reminder of the power of compassion and a smile.
