Champion Spotlight: Hussaina Fadimatou Abdou – A Young Leader Transforming Communities

This International Women’s Day, we celebrate Hussaina Fadimatou Abdou, a 26-year-old youth and gender activist whose dedication to social justice is transforming communities in Cameroon. As a Gender Officer at the Daraja Reube Mbororo Development Association (DAREM), Hussaina focuses on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) prevention, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), and community empowerment. With a BSc and MSc in Social Anthropology and certifications in Monitoring and Evaluation, Youth-Led Advocacy, and Peacebuilding, she has become a driving force for change. Her work with the REPAIR training program, where she educated youth on democracy and peacebuilding, showcases her ability to turn knowledge into action.

Hussaina’s impact extends beyond her professional roles. She advocates for mental health awareness and has improved SRHR knowledge among Mbororo women and girls, empowering them to challenge societal norms. Her collaborative approach to GBV prevention and community development highlights her belief in collective action. Hussaina is a beacon of hope, proving that young women can lead transformative change.

A Message of Empowerment from Hussaina:

“To every woman and girl out there: Your voice matters, your dreams are valid, and your potential is limitless. Together, we can break barriers and create a future where everyone thrives.”
