Lorraine Aguti: Defending Human Rights and Legal Justice
Lorraine Aguti is a Ugandan human rights lawyer and social justice advocate with over five years of experience in legal practice, community engagement, and policy advocacy. Her passion for justice and equality has driven her to champion the rights of marginalized communities through legal research, policy work, and activism.
Holding a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Makerere University, Lorraine is currently completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice at the Law Development Center in Kampala. She works as a Legal Associate at Penal Reform International, where she advocates for fair penal systems and the rights of vulnerable populations.
Beyond legal advocacy, Lorraine is deeply engaged in AI ethics and human rights campaigns. As a Program Assistant at Kampala Analytica, she actively participates in discussions on AI’s role in justice and policy-making while also leading efforts to combat gender-based violence. Her volunteer work with FIDA-Uganda focuses on women’s rights, particularly in addressing female genital mutilation and gender discrimination.
Her expertise in human rights law, social media campaigning, and research enables her to design impactful, community-driven initiatives that promote equality and justice across Uganda. Through her work, Lorraine continues to challenge oppressive legal frameworks and advocate for systemic change.
As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we honor the contributions of Asal Abatova, Byinzika Pauline Noeline, Arindagye Mercy Melody, Lorraine Aguti, and Olachi Angel Iwehee, along with all the fearless women shaping a better world. Their dedication to truth, equality, and justice serves as an inspiration to us all.
