Editorial: ISHR Newsletter August 2024 – Special Edition

Dear Board, Human Rights Defenders, and ISHR Network,

This August, we present a truly remarkable edition of our ISHR-Newsletter – a special edition entitled the Ambassadors Newsletter. Over the past eight weeks, we have had the privilege of training and building a robust network of human rights ambassadors from across the Africa. Their stories, poems, and reports reflect a unique blend of grassroots perspectives and global insights.

Our brilliant young activists and advocates for change have poured their hearts into these pieces, keen to make a difference. We are delighted to share their experiences and provide a platform where their voices can resonate.

In this edition, you will find captivating poems and stories from Nigeria, Kenya, Cameroon, Uganda, Ghana and The Gambia. The diversity and inclusivity of our cohort have been truly inspiring, with a notable 40 % participation of female activists. We commend their bravery, especially given the cultural norms and roles that can make advocacy particularly challenging for women in their communities.

Your continuous support is invaluable as we look forward to hosting our next cohort in 2025. We encourage young female activists to apply and join us in our mission. We are committed to leaving no one behind.

Enjoy this special edition, and let the voices of our ambassadors inspire and motivate you.
Warm regards,

Matthias Boehning
Secretary General, ISHR
