According to the HRANA organization, the authorities of the mullah dictatorship have summoned and interrogated at least 35 Jewish Iranians in Tehran and Shiraz because of their contact with relatives in Israel. The wave of interrogations began on 23 June 2025 and the pressure on the Jewish population has probably not been this great since the early years of the Islamic Republic. Security officials asked those summoned to avoid telephone or online communication with family members abroad. Iran made travelling to Israel a criminal offence in 2011, punishable by prison sentences and passport bans. Many Iranian Jews have relatives there due to decades of emigration. The authorities have apparently not explained the purpose of the interrogations. Some families have been told that the measures are preventive, not punitive, in nature and are related to the recent controversy.

The community, whose members have endeavored not to attract attention since the Islamic Revolution, is experiencing a new phase of fear. Human rights organizations criticize the fact that Jews as a religious group are being placed under general suspicion as a result of this approach. The ISHR fears that the continued existence of the mullah regime will lead to a massive increase in persecution, torture and executions. The expansion of state control over alleged or actual opposition is planned. The Attorney General of Golestan province has announced the establishment of a monitoring committee in which the Revolutionary Guards, the Ministry of Intelligence, the police and the state broadcaster IRIB are to be represented.
