Leonid Popov comes from Melitopol in the Zaporizhzhya region. He worked as a refrigeration engineer, where he was responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of these systems.

Abduction

Leonid was abducted by representatives of the Russian FSB in Melitopol at around 12 noon on 24 April 2023. The reason for this was that Leonid had photographed military equipment belonging to the Russian occupation forces. He has been illegally detained in Donetsk Remand Prison No. 1 since 15 August 2024.

Following initial proceedings in Simferopol, Leonid was committed indefinitely to a psychiatric hospital in Zhdanivka (Shakhtarskyi district, Donetsk region) for compulsory treatment.

Health

Leonid was diagnosed with chronic mental illness, undifferentiated schizophrenia. Unfortunately, it is not known how his health has been since his abduction.
