Mykyta Shkriabin is from the village of Vilkhivka in the Kharkiv region. Before his imprisonment in Russia, he studied at the National Law University in his 3rd year. His main subject was public prosecution.

Abduction

Mykyta left his home on 29 March 2022 and never returned. According to witnesses, he was detained by Russian soldiers, placed into a vehicle, and taken to an unknown location. After his family and lawyers contacted various state and international organizations, they were informed that Mykyta Shkriabin was in custody in the Russian Federation.

Throughout the entire period of Mykyta’s unlawful detention, his lawyer has had no access to him. The whereabouts of his client on the territory of the Russian Federation are unknown to the country’s state structures.

Health Condition

Before his arrest, Mykyta had problems with his eyesight. Nothing is known about his current state of health condition.

Letter to the Russian Ambassador

Subject: Request for the Immediate Release of Ukrainian Civilian Mykyta Shkriabin

Dear Ambassador [INSERT] / Dear Ombudswoman Moskalkova,

I am writing to draw your attention to the arbitrary detention of Ukrainian civilian Mykyta Shkriabin (born June 25, 2002), who was unjustly arrested and abducted on March 29, 2022, in Vilkhivka, Kharkiv Region.

On that day, Mykyta, a law student, left his home and never returned. Witnesses reported that he was detained by Russian soldiers and taken to an unknown location. His family later learned that he was being held in custody within the Russian Federation. His exact whereabouts remain unknown to this day, and his lawyer has not been granted any access to him. There is no information available about Mykyta’s current health condition.

I am particularly alarmed by consistent reports of torture and mistreatment of detainees in Russian penal colonies and pre-trial detention centers. Mykyta Shkriabin is an innocent civilian being held without any legal justification. The rights and freedoms of such individuals must be fully respected and protected.

I strongly urge you to advocate for the lawful and humane treatment of all civilian detainees in Russia, particularly those abducted from Ukraine. Please ensure that Mykyta is granted contact with his family and provided with legal representation.

Letter to the Ukrainian Authorities

I am writing to draw your attention to the abduction of Ukrainian civilian Mykyta Shkriabin (born June 25, 2002) by Russian military forces. He was unjustly detained on March 29, 2022, in the village of Vilkhivka, Kharkiv Region. I respectfully request that his case be recorded in the Register of Persons Missing under Special Circumstances.

On that day, Mykyta, a law student, left his home and never returned. Witnesses reported that he was detained by Russian soldiers and taken to an unknown location. His family later learned that he is being held in detention within the Russian Federation. His current whereabouts remain unknown, and his lawyer has had no access to him at any point. There is no information available regarding Mykyta’s health condition.

I received this information from the International Society for Human Rights (ISHR), which is actively involved in public outreach, appeals, and sponsorships for Ukrainian civilian detainees. The organization is in close contact with the families of those abducted and works to raise awareness about the torture and mistreatment many face in Russian captivity.

I have submitted an appeal to the Russian authorities, drawing attention to the case of Mykyta Shkriabin and calling for his release.
