The history of the International Society for Human Rights is closely tied to that of the Soviet Union. After its fall in 1991, ISHR sections formed in many countries of the former USSR, including all six countries of the Eastern Partnership (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine) as well as in Russia. Currently, exciting joint projects regarding freedom of information and media and strengthening civil society actors are being carried out in the region by the sections, iniated by the ISHR in Germany, with support from the German Federal Foreign Office.

Russia: Putin continues to get rid of his critics

Oleg Orlov, co-founder of the human rights organization Memorial, which is now banned in Russia, was sentenced yesterday to two years and six months in prison for discrediting the army. The IGFM fears for the lives of numerous dissidents in Russia following the death of Alexei Navalny.

Iraq: Regional Updates from VP

On the 1st of February, we were interviewed by the Harem news agency; we discussed the acts of aggression against the Kurdistan region of Iraq and their threat to international peace and security. We also discussed the Iranian attack on the city of Erbil and the killing of civilians and children.

Iraq: Is Europe Facing A New Wave Of Refugees?

On the 18th of January, we were interviewed on K24 satellite channel to discuss the role of the international community in protecting human rights based on a collective human security approach.
