Serhiy Sytnyk is from the Sumy Region in north-eastern Ukraine. He lived with his wife and two children in the town of Trostianets.

Abduction

On 16 March 2022, the Russian military broke into Serhiy’s family home, searched the premises, and confiscated documents and weapons. Serhiy and his neighbour Volodymyr, were bound and detained. After an interrogation at the city administration building, they were taken to the village of Boromlia, where they were held together with other detainees, beaten, and additionally threatened with execution. Volodymyr was later released and was able to return home. Serhiy, however, was abducted to Russia, where he was last seen in April 2022 in a pre-trial detention centre in the city of Stary Oskol (Belgorod Region). Since then, the family has received no further information about Serhiy.
