The International Society for Human Rights (ISHR) was deeply shocked to learn on Friday, 16 February 2024, of the death of Alexei Anatolyevich Navalny.

“We hereby express our sincere condolences to his wife Yulia Navalny, his two children, his parents, his friends and his colleagues,” the human rights organization said.

At the same time, ISHR joins into the worldwide community of mourners who share not only the horror at the death of a courageous and generous person, but also at the inhumanity of a dictatorial regime.

According to the information available to ISHR, Alexei Navalny, who was born on 4 June 1976, died in the “Polar Wolf” penal colony in the Kharp settlement. ISHR is deeply saddened by the depressing report of his death. According to what is known, Alexei Navalny was sent to a penal isolation center 27 times during his detention and spent a total of 308 days in prison.
