Vasyl Maleta is from the city of Balaklija in the Kharkiv Region and volunteered by providing food to residents. He worked as a specialist in heating and gas supply before being abducted by the Russian military.

Abduction

On the morning of April 2, 2022, Vasyl Maleta and a friend were delivering dog food to acquaintances in a gray Sprinter van. They then planned to attend the funeral of an acquaintance, but contact with the two men was lost around 8:35 a.m.

A witness reported that the two men were stopped by Russian soldiers. They were beaten, their cell phones were taken, and they were forced into the back of their own minibus. Vasyl and his friend were abducted and taken to an unknown location, and to this day, his family has no information about his whereabouts.

Health

Vasyl was recovering from a knee injury when he was abducted. His current health status is unknown.
