Volodymyr is from the village of Tambovka in the Zaporizhzhia Region and holds a doctorate in geosciences. Before his detention by Russian forces, he worked as a professor at the Bohdan Khmelnytsky State Pedagogical University in Melitopol, where he headed the Department of Ecology and Human Biology.
Abduction
On 13 December 2022, the Russian military abducted Volodymyr from his home in the village of Tambovka. A letter from the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation indicates that Volodymyr is being held in Russia. For a long period, his whereabouts were unknown. According to the latest information from March 2025, Volodymyr is being held in Pre-Trial Detention Centre No. 2 in the city of Taganrog (Rostov Region, Russian Federation).
Health Status
Volodymyr suffers from high blood pressure and a kidney disease. His current state of health is unknown. It is suspected that his medical conditions have worsened during his detention.
