Project on Human Rights
Our vice president of Asia and Pacific, Krmanj Othman has been undertaking several projects regarding human rights and other activities that support human rights awareness raising and capacity building. Below are some of the activities during the months of July and August in his own words:
1- On the 24th of August I and my team participated and provided legal advice for the Kurdistan region of Iraq Juvenile Care Committee (JCC) regarding protecting child and juvenile rights according to international conventions and standards. In addition, we provided our proposal to amend some laws and regulations to protect the juvenile justice system. This is an area of priority for ISHR in Iraq.
2- In our efforts to pursue justice for the victims of ISIS orchestrated violations including genocide, on the 3rd of August I published a legal booklet regarding ISIS crimes persecution. The booklet was published on the anniversary of Yezidis genocide detailing how we can support the victims and survivors of ISIS crimes against Yezidis and Christian from impunity.
3- On the 1st of August I visited the General Consulate of Netherlands in Erbil city to plan some activities regarding strengthening the rule of law program for the Judiciary Institute in Iraq and Kurdistan and learn from European experience in that regard.
