IGFM: Holodomor – killing by starvation – must not happen again
For those who can: please, donate your “energy subsidy” to Ukraine
Frankfurt am Main, 7 November 2022 – In view of the massive destruction of infrastructure caused by the Russian army’s bombing raids, the International Society for Human Rights (IGFM) appeals to all those who are not in urgent need of the flat-rate energy subsidy distributed by the German government to donate a part or all this subsidy to organisations providing humanitarian aid in Ukraine.
According to information from IGFM members who maintain humanitarian aid bases in a nationwide network in Ukraine, the destruction of infrastructure by Russian missiles is already showing dramatic consequences: communication between the bases and the headquarters of humanitarian aid organisations is difficult. Generators and mobile phones are urgently needed. In Kyiv, the capital city of Ukraine, only four hours of electricity a day are provided. As a result, the water supply and the underground fail to work in some parts of the city. In rural areas, the situation is also dramatic.
As soon as temperatures drop below zero, many people will die if our help fails to arrive in time. National and international aid organisations cannot communicate with their bases without electricity, now they all lack generators and satellite-based mobile phones.
One of the hardest historical challenges for the people of Ukraine was the Holodomor, initiated by Stalin, which cost the lives of more than five million Ukrainians in the 1930s. Now Putin is about to condemn millions of Ukrainians to starvation once again.
IGFM appeals to all those who are not necessarily dependent on the German government’s subsidies to donate to organisations like IGFM that provide humanitarian aid in Ukraine.
