ISHR Secretary General Matthias Boehning had the chance to briefly talk to Annalena Baerbock, Germany’s foreign minister, during the UN Climate Change Conference COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh in mid-November 2022 about bringing Germany’s energy interests in the gulf region together with a solid human rights orientation. She said strong human rights standards will be applied during all further steps in Germany‘s energy purchases from the gulf region, be it LNG from Qatar or Green Hydrogen from Saudi Arabia.
