Afghanistan: A Man Executed by the Taliban

Report from Mohammad Asghar Surush, Afghan Human Rights Activist, 07/12/2022

While the world is watching the football world cup champion, the Afghan people watched the execution of a man.

On December 07, 2022, the Taliban regime executed a man in the Farah province of Afghanistan. The man executed, went by the named Tajmir. He was accused of murder. Before the implementation of the verdict, the Taliban asked people to gather in the city’s stadium and watch the execution of the man.

It is a norm in other countries that when government officials wanted to open a big, important, and significant project, they government officials visit the place and open the project. But in Afghanistan under the control of the Taliban, the senior Taliban leaders including the group’s Deputy Prime Ministers, Ministers of Interior, Foreign Affairs, Education, and Justice, visited Farah province to watch the execution.

This act of the Taliban is absolutely against all of the international human rights instruments, and specifically, it is a violation of the second additional protocol of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR).

Previously, the Taliban regime in many other provinces of Afghanistan has publicly flogged Afghan citizens on various charges.
