Frankfurt am Main, April 25, 2023 – At a conference of the International Society for Human Rights (IGFM), Renata Alt, Chairwoman of the German Bundestag’s Committee on Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid, emphasized:

“What we see in Iran are women who burned their headscarves to make it clear that they would no longer allow themselves to be oppressed by the mullahs. This has long since turned into a revolutionary movement that has gripped the entire country. Even though the regime has imprisoned thousands of demonstrators, it cannot turn back the clock.”

The IGFM, based in Frankfurt am Main, presented their sponsorship program, with which they have been supporting political prisoners for many years.

Renata Alt expressly welcomed this and emphasized:

“In many cases, this has led to improvements for the inmates, because dictatorships and autocracies are also concerned about their image in the world.”

She added:

“Human rights violations must be made public. Those affected must not be forgotten. They need hope and our support. This is the only way they have a chance of being released.”
