Buduburam Camp Discussion
Introduction
The International Society for Human Rights occassionally hosts a virtual event such as X spaces (formerly Twitter Spaces), Facebook live, webinars, among others in which diverse Human Rights Defenders, politicians, and academicians dissect topical issues on the landscape of human rights, the rule of law, and democracy in the World. ISHR prides itself on offering a platform for all people of diverse backgrounds to share their knowledge and experiences.
For this month, ISHR has organised a facebook event discussion to cast a spotlight on the situation in Liberia Camp in Buduburam, Ghana. In February of this year, the government of Ghana demolished large parts of the camp leaving over 15,000 people stranded and without adequate shelter. The situation in the camp has escalated, causing starvation, and disease. The Major motive of the government has been reported to be to push the refugees out forcing them to return to Liberia. Majority of the affected persons have lived in Ghana for generations and it is all they know as home.
In this virtual event, will feature, George Bannerman ED Ministerial Development and Relief Program Ghana, Dennis Gwion, the camp leader, Matthias Boehning, the ISHR Secretary General will give a picture of the crisis at Buduburam Camp. The discussion will be hosted by Annah Ashaba and Teddy Odira, ISHR ambassadors 2024 cohort from Kenya and it will last one and a half hours. An opportunity will be given to participants in the audience to make their contribution.
